The Western Ghats of India

In 1998 Gorgas began documenting the biodiversity of the Western Ghats in southwestern India.  After several years of field work by cinematographer/field biologist Sandesh Kadur,  GSF completed the in-house production of a 60 minute documentary entitled Sahyadris – Mountains of the Monsoon. This production was a finalist for a BBC “green Emmy” and was eventually sold to Discovery Channel in India.   Millions of people in India saw it and it resulted in increased public support for conservation and protection of the Western Ghats.   Since that time GSF has helped published books and produce additional films and is currently working with Indian nonprofit partner on a book on the Himalayas.
